GGT Waste (also a Green Growth Technology company) has used this technology to demonstrate the biocide (killing of) pathogens found in New Orleans floodwaters and sludge from the Ninth Ward in New Orleans. The testing was performed by Nova Biologicals in Conroe Texas using AOAC method 960.09C. The elimination of pathogens is accomplished with no detrimental effects to the ecosystem.

Natural Biotechnology, “NBT”, (a Green Growth Technology company) produces a proprietary mixture of Lactic Acid Bacteria from fresh whole organic milk.

Using a “natural” method of culturing, this unique probiotic strain is produced without genetic modification. NBT scientists are able to produce very high concentrations of probiotics [in the order of 33 million per ml. (33X10^6 cfu/ml)], which has the benefit of making remediation of sludge and floodwaters, schools, hospitals and other buildings extremely cost effective. Unlike harsher chemical treatments being proposed for Katrina/Rita affected areas that will create long term problems for these communities, the GGT Waste/NBT system causes no residual harm to the environment. This enhanced probiotic formulation has been successfully applied in field trials that have demonstrated its powerful microbial effectiveness with a variety of previously deemed difficult to treat contaminants such as MTBEs. These natural systems digest the contaminants into harmless, environmentally friendly bi-products.

Because Natural Biotechnology uses only whole organic milk as its source for generating its microbe cultures, these cultures are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for use as food additives by the FDA. Therefore, any NBT-SP microorganisms which remain in the water or soil or other commercial application will not pose any threat to human health or the environment. Lactobacillus Paracassei, one of the species cultured, is a major component in the manufacture of cheddar cheese and resides in large numbers in the cheese after the ripening process. A Google™ search on Lactobacter or Lactobacillis Paracassei will give numerous scientific references to the pathogen removal, human and animal health benefits of the species and genus. The reason this has not widely been used however is until now, there has not been a solution to get the trillions of microbes to contaminated areas without enormous engineering and production costs.

NBT is capable of cost effectively producing commercial quantities of its proprietary formula. This culture is used exclusively by GGT Waste in designing and implementing environmental remediation solutions. GGTWaste offers a broad range of environmental engineering services.
